Vandaag hoor je de Euro Top 100 bij KINK

Op vrijdag 23 januari, de slotdag van het World Economic Forum in Davos, staat KINK volledig in het teken van de Euro Top 100. Tussen 09:00 en 18:00 uur hoor je de honderd hoogst genoteerde Europese tracks uit de meest recente KINK 1500. Het resultaat is een muzikale realitycheck: hoe klinkt het alternatieve rocklandschap als je het bekijkt vanuit Europa?

De Euro Top 100 laat horen hoe breed en krachtig Europa muzikaal vertegenwoordigd is. Britse acts domineren de lijst, met onder andere Muse, Radiohead, Arctic Monkeys en The Cure. Ierland laat een uitgesproken geluid horen met Fontaines D.C. en Sinéad O’Connor, Duitsland is stevig aanwezig met Rammstein en ook Nederland speelt een duidelijke rol met namen als De Staat, The Gathering, Bettie Serveert, Johan en Blaudzun. Daarnaast zijn België (dEUS), Frankrijk (Air), Noorwegen (Madrugada) en Denemarken (Volbeat) goed vertegenwoordigd. De lijst beslaat meerdere decennia: van iconen als David Bowie en Pink Floyd tot nieuwe namen als Wet Leg en The Last Dinner Party.

Tegelijkertijd maakt de Euro Top 100 ook duidelijk wat er ontbreekt. Amerikaanse bands als Pearl Jam, Green Day en Foo Fighters, die normaal gesproken hoog eindigen in de KINK 1500, vallen hier buiten de selectie. Juist hun afwezigheid laat zien hoe groot de invloed van Amerikaanse alternatieve rock doorgaans is binnen het genre.

De Euro Top 100 is nadrukkelijk geen politiek statement en geen keuze voor of tegen continenten. Het is een muzikale exercitie: een momentopname die laat horen wat Europa zelf in huis heeft aan alternatieve rock, los van de vanzelfsprekende trans-Atlantische blik.
