VIJF JAAR RADIOSTILTE

Na een succesvol album en shows rond de hele wereld werd het ineens angstvallig stil rondom Isaac Gracie. Geen berichten op Instagram, geen shows of nieuwe muziek. Isaac: 'you know generally speaking i've just spend the last few years doing a lot of different things, and kinda recalibrating life. I took some time away from music for a bit, and i wanted to return when i thought i could give myself to it. And make good music.' En die muziek is er nu, de nieuwe single 'The Man Who Flew Into Space' is onlangs de wereld in geslingers.

'I think it's really important that the world is capable of respecting and honouring how close we all are to breakdown in this capitalist society we are all in.'

MENTALE GEZONDHEID

Voor Isaac Gracie was de lange break van het spelen en releasen nodig. 'Honestly? It was the best thing in a way', vertelt hij: 'There is something about the music industry, about getting into it when you're young and the pressure that comes with that, and a lot of anxiety as well. None of that is very creative or communeral.' Daarom nam hij de tijd om de rust te nemen. Gracie: 'It was really nice to get back to a place with myself that wasn't quite so anxious or self prioritising. I really enjoyed that'. Dat momenteel veel tours worden gecanceld door mental health redenen vindt de zanger dan ook niet gek: 'It's a business that takes a lot from you, and requires a lot from you. And you can find yourself feeling a little bit hollowed out, and when you're hollowed out, you're more liable to breakdown.', aldus Isaac. Ook ziet hij dat de wereld meer open staat, om te praten over dit onderwerp. SOCIAL MEDIA

De jaren waarin Isaac Gracie niet te zien was voor de buitenwereld, was hij ook offline op social media. 'I don't know if we have long enough to talk about these things' begint hij mee: 'It's a by-product of where society is at now' 'It has changed a lot, before we were speaking now, i was trying to make a video for TikTok. It's complicated and challenging sometimes. But there is a positive angle: any form of creative output is interesting, and it does give people an opurtunity to make things, and there is a value to that', dus Isaac is overal online weer te vinden: 'it's a dubble-edged sword, and it's a wrestling match. I do not like social media that much, but you need to do it', vertelt hij.
